The objective of this Workshop is to sensitize students of architecture in earthquake resistant design practices through technical lectures followed by design studios where they will be given hands-on guidance in earthquake resistant design by working on an architectural design project.
Architects, as initiators of projects, coordinate the team of professionals responsible for the building delivery process. At this juncture, there is an urgent need to reach out to tomorrow’s architects through sensitization in seismic safety issues to better prepare them for their professional roles. To spearhead this agenda, NICEE was associated with the NASA 2007 Convention held at MANIT Bhopal in December 2007, at the SAARCH Convention 2008 held in New Delhi in March 2008, and more recently at the SAARC NASA Convention in Pune.
The upcoming Workshop is targeted at students of architecture who are presently in the third year of the architecture course, that is, they are in the sixth semester of the 10-semester degree programmed in architecture and would have completed sixth semester/ third year just before attending the workshop. The selected students will undergo hands on training in Earthquake Resistant Architecture Practices. The workshop will comprise in-person lectures on June 1 and 2, 2026, followed by design studio sessions from June 3 to 7, 2026, at IIT Kanpur, to be coordinated by professionals with wide experience in this field. Students will be provided regular double occupancy hostel and mess facilities during the stay at IIT Kanpur. A nonrefundable registration fee of Rs.10,000/- per student will be charged from the participants of the workshop. The registration fee is to be remitted after the selection of the participants.
We invite you to nominate upto four students from your college/institute to participate in this workshop. In view of the hands on nature of this workshop, we have to restrict the number of participants. Hence, depending on the number of applications received, we will select some of these students. We look forward to working with the students and preparing them in earthquake resistant design as a significant step in ensuring safety for the vulnerable communities in our country. The last date of receiving application is April 15, 2026
