NICEE at IIT Kanpur has
excellent collection of books, journals, periodicals,
reports etc. in the
area of earthquake engineering. The first Earthquake
Engineering Literature Review
Workshop for M.Tech. students from different engineering
colleges across the country was
organized by the NICEE in the year 2002. This workshop
has received overwhelming
response from participating students and is being
conducted annually by NICEE. This year,
the literature survey workshop is being organized by the
NICEE during 27 August - 05
September 2008 for post graduate students from
engineering colleges across the country.
The aim of this workshop is to enable such Masters/Ph.D.
students to conduct literature
survey for their thesis who may not have access to
current state-of-the art information in the
area of earthquake engineering at their
college/institution. Apart from literature survey, the
students will also be demonstrated state-of-the art
equipment and testing facilities related to
earthquake engineering available at IIT Kanpur. Also,
during the 10 day long workshop, a
series of video shows on selected lessons from past
earthquakes will be organized. Moreover,
the students may also use this opportunity to discuss
specific problems related to their
research topic with research scholars, faculty members
of the department of civil engineering
at IIT Kanpur, who specialize in the area of earthquake
engineering.
We invite nominations from the Heads of the Department
of Civil Engineering or
Principals/Directors of engineering colleges/institutes
in India from amongst their Ph.D. and
final semester M.E./M.Tech. Civil Engineering students
interested in attending this workshop.
The nomination form should reach us by 15 July 2008.
Nominated students should be taking
up earthquake engineering related research for their
Masters/Ph.D. theses. The selected
students will stay with us on our campus in one of the
students’ hostel. Sponsorships are
being sought from different agencies to support the
students’ travel and boarding/lodging at
IIT Kanpur during the review workshop. We may provide
financial support for the
participation in the workshop depending on availability
of funds.
